The abandoned village of Königsmühle in the Ore Mountains (CZ) has been uninhabited since the expulsion of its German-speaking residents in 1946. In nearby Kovářská, too, the consequences of expulsion, economic change and dereliction continue to shape the townscape to this day.
In Kovářská, cultural studies scholar Petr Mikšíček is committed to coming to terms with the region’s German-Czech history and initiates projects that bring the past and present into dialogue with one another.
The photographic work connects both places and documents the long-term consequences of expulsion, structural change and German-Czech rapprochement in the border region.
